Smokin’ on the Suwannee BBQ Festival July 23-25

Big Bend BBQ lovers get ready!

The 1st annual “Smokin’ On the Suwannee BBQ Festival,” featuring live music, a Dutch Oven demonstration and Florida BBQ Association (FBA) contest, is planned for July 23-25 at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak.

The “Smokin On the Suwannee (SOTS) BBQ Festival” is a first-year event to raise funds for the Suwannee High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) program.

The FBA-sanctioned contest will attract professional cook teams from all over the Southeast, including Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The family event will offer many great activities, and you can sample BBQ from all over the South.

Competition cook teams will fire up their smokers and turn in entries of chicken, ribs, pork and brisket to be scored on presentation, taste and tenderness by a panel of FBA-certified BBQ judges.

The overall contest winners and the winners of each category will be awarded cash prizes and earn points towards becoming the “FBA Team Of the Year.” The event Grand Champion will qualify for the American Royal BBQ Championship in Kansas City and receive a chance to be drawn to compete in the Jack Daniels World Championship in Tennessee.

On Thursday, July 23, businesses and individuals who sponsor the SOTS BBQ Festival are invited out to a special evening in recognition of their generous contribution, including a “meet and greet” starting at 6 p.m. and a special BBQ dinner prepared by #1-ranked cook team, “Swamp Boys,” and several other nationally-ranked BBQ teams.

Mouth-watering desserts will be prepared right in front of the sponsors by professional Dutch Oven Cooking Expert Forrest Dilmore as he explains some secrets of Dutch Oven cooking.

All events will be held at the beautiful Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Fla.

Live entertainment will be provided on Friday, July 24, as some of the top-ranked competition BBQ teams in the nation begin their preparations for the BBQ contest on Saturday.

Sponsorships start as low as $150 and include invitations to the Dutch Oven demonstration and BBQ dinner, name or business listed on all published materials, logo on event banners, weekend passes to the event and t-shirts.
