Tropical Storm Debby

TAYLOR COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Department of Emergency Management
As of 11 AM Tuesday, Tropical Storm Debby was located about 92 miles south-southwest of Perry,
Florida. Debby is moving slowly toward the east at 3 mph and an eastward or east-northeastward motion
with some increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Computer models are
finally coming into good agreement on Debby’s track and only southern Taylor County remains in the 3-
day error cone. The combination of storm surge and tides may cause surge to reach up to 2-4 feet in
Apalachee Bay and near 1-3 feet along the rest of the Florida Gulf Coast. Of main concern will be minor
coastal flooding of 1 to 3 feet above tide levels along the coast. Tropical Storm Debby currently has
maximum sustained winds near 40 MPH with higher gusts. Tropical Storm force winds mainly extend
towards the southeast of center and little change in strength is expected. Tropical Storm force winds may
be experienced as gusts along the Taylor County coast with diminishing winds further inland. Taylor
County has received a total of 9 to 11 inches of rain with isolated spots receiving more and is currently
forecasted to receive an additional 6-9 inches of rain through Wednesday.
The Taylor County Department of Emergency Management continues to monitor the progress and effects
of Tropical Storm Debby. The Taylor County Emergency Operations Center has been activated to a Level
2-Partial Activation and is coordinating with Taylor County Public Works to assess and address public
safety issues caused by flooding and debris. Currently, the VOLUNTARY evacuation order for coastal
and low-lying areas of the County is still in effect. Taylor County residents are encouraged to continue to
monitor the progress of Debby and prepare their homes by moving vehicles and trailers out of flood prone
areas and moving or tying down items that may blow away in high wind gusts. Please report any road
problems and power line issues to the Emergency Operations Center at 850-838-3575. The shelter at
Perry Elementary (1600 E Green St., Perry, FL) has been placed on standby should a need arise. For the
